Year In Review: Top 5 Blogs in 2011

There are so many lists out there of all the cool stuff you should buy in Second Life. All the top designers, shoe makers, skins, poses, blah blah blah. Well, what about the girls who spend their free time and money advertising all these beautiful things for YOU!

Whether you like it or not, bloggers are part of the equation. I wanted to share, because no one asked me to, some of my personal favorites.

NOTE: I do not know ANY of these people in Second Life or in real life.

Syra Hyun
This woman knows how to put some shit together and make it sing. She has a stunning eye for detail and beautiful composition in her photographs. They are totally works of art.  Also, if you look back at her beginning 2011 you can see how much she has developed her skills. She’s gotten more brash and bold about doing avant garde images and doesn’t seem afraid of anything you put in front of her.

Flower Ducatillon
I really love that a majority of her Second Life images are on location. I think that is totally fantastic and sets the tone for her styles. Her choices are often go between the extremes of whimisical and dream-like. I very much enjoy the variety. Also, her avie shape is really pleasant to look at. She doesn’t have the downward turned lips and an alien-shaped head.

Dantelicia Ethaniel
Dantelicia’s work transcends all traditional SL fashion blogs. Her work is art. Pure and Simple. If you look at her flickr stream: you will see countless examples of the most beautiful images. She understands a woman’s body and it’s form in virtually any setting. Abstract to portrait, restrained to visceral… it’s a beautiful thing to admire.

Kex Blackheart
I call dark skinned beauties in Second Life “chocolate bears” because they are yummy and I wants to eats them up! (For the record, I call pale skinned avies “honkeys ” because it makes me laugh.) Kex is definitely a chocolate bear. She’s got a totally unique shape, fucking fantastic sense of design, and gorgeous portfolio of blog images. Sadly, she doesn’t blog that often – but when she does, she makes it worth your while. She’s unique and lovely, and I completely admire that.

Brie Wonder
Brie’s latest post blew my socks off when I first set eyes on it. Only a few days ago, the simplicity of it all seemed so elegant and jarring at the same time. What is the woman doing there with all the camera equipment around her? Why is she in her panties? It reminded me so much of how Degas would compose his paintings. Juxtaposed to infer a story, without actually telling it. I’ve got my eye on Token Chic.

I hope you dig the names I’ve mentioned and maybe discovered their beauty too! It was such a pleasure to go through each set of images for a year and watch the progress unfold. Anyways, this is just one gal’s opinion on something special in Second Life. Happy New Year.

Toxic Behavior

Toxic behaviors are a sustained pattern of dehumanizing, humiliating or harassing statements or actions that go beyond providing constructive criticism. The behaviors are forms of aggression that are harmful and damaging.

I was reading through the blog The Rumor tonight. It made me sad how much snark, humiliation, and degrading antics were paraded around. I even plurked about it:  It’s like their marketing strategy is to be as mean as they possibly can – and then brag about it.

When did this become cool?

I’ve worked in the professional creative industry for 10+ years, and I have only seen this type of behavior from whorish creative directors that do blow in their offices and wander around the rest of the day stoned. It’s like their megalomania is turned up to eleven. I mean, honestly?

Maybe it’s me. Maybe I loath bitchy, rich (and cheap), bullies who are drunk on pretend power, but when did ‘hate‘ become a marketing plan for Second Life. Way to alienate whole populations of content creators. Score one for The Rumor. Well done.

An Ode to Paisley Mizin

Paisley Mizin is pretty cool. She’s the owner of DooDads and does the blog Oh My Stars! Her Second Life is full of color and patterns and vibrations only puppies and kittens can hear. She gave me this Gunmetal set and I was amazed at the details in it. For only $100L you get two versions of earrings and the necklace. Amazing!

She’s got most of her store on SL Marketplace. Here’s a link to that:

You can also stop by her mini-store in world here: It only has a few items, so I would recommend hitting her up on Marketplace.

Make sure you check out her blog, Oh My Stars!, I’ve been a fan for a while now and I just love her color. I’m terrified of color in some ways, a total coward, so I am in AWE of her images. Click here:

Don’t Let Him Wind Up On the New Jersey Parkway

Exotic animals are NOT pets.

This month the Concerned Bloggers Association is discussing the topics of Animal Adoptions and Rights. We want our furry little friends to be protected and live healthy, humane lives around us.

It is estimated that between 5,000 and 7,000 tigers are kept as “pets” — more than exist in the wild.*

This brings us to exotic pets. For some reason people seem to think owning an “exotic animal” makes your cooler or that women will want to fuck you. This is NOT true. It only makes you a jack ass. Exotic animals are NOT domesticated like our friendly puppies and kittens. Their mission is life is NOT to amuse you while you watch tv and jerk off to the latest Victoria Secret Runway Show.

Did that sound harsh? Maybe.

The point is: It is NOT human to keep any sort of animal trapped in a cage or your home that should be out in the wild. It is beyond fucked up that a TIGER can be purchased for about $300USD*, less than a purebred dog.

Here’s the ARE YOU STUPID?! List of Animals you should NOT have in your backyard/farm/garage:

1. Kinkajou
2. Big Cats
3. Crocodiles and Alligators
4. Venomous Snakes
5. Chimps and Monkeys
6. Ostriches
7. Camels
8. Scorpions
9. Constrictors
10. Turtles

Leave these animals alone and in their proper habitat where they belong. Don’t be a shmuck.

This Public Service Announcement was brought to you by the Concerned Bloggers Association. If you would like to become involved, please contact Marleen Vaughan for more information.
